Meet Mrs. Parker
Hello! I am Mrs. Parker. This is my fourth year teaching 5th grade, and I cannot tell you how thrilled I am to begin this adventure.
My family consists my husband and our dog, Ubu (oo-boo). We love going hiking, swimming (well, not Ubu), shopping, birding, traveling, drawing, painting, taking pictures, finding new restaurants, exercising, spending time with friends, exploring, and getting lost. You never know what you will find when you get lost. That is why it is one of my favorite things to do! I graduated college in 2005 with a BFA in Art from University of Louisville. While in school, my concentration was in photography and painting, but my love and appreciation for art expands over many different mediums. We are surrounded by art, so it is impossible not to include it in our everyday lives. After receiving my art degree, I decided I wanted to live in Peru, South America and learn about the Peruvian culture. I was able to see Machu Picchu and go sand boarding! To say the least, I had an amazing time and learned so much, but I missed being in Kentucky. When I came back home in 2010, my next adventure was farming. I lived and worked on a farm for 8 months in the city of Louisville. We harvested and cultivated vegetables, as well as raised around 40 pigs and 300 chickens Farming was really hard work, but so rewarding at the same time! I learned so much about growing your own food, as well as supporting the community by supporting our local farmers. In December 2014I went back to UofL and graduated with my Masters in Elementary Education. After graduating, I taught Art to students from Kindergarten through 5th grade. I can't go a day without thinking about art in some way, shape, or form so I try my hardest to incorporate art within the classroom as much as possible! After teaching art, I then began teaching 5th grade and I love it! I also love to travel and explore the world. I have been to the following places: England, Netherlands, Peru, Mexico, Canada, and different locations in the United States. My goal is to travel to every country in the world. Teaching is a great passion of mine, and I am so happy that I am here at McFerran Preparatory Academy, teaching 5th grade. I know we will have a fantastic year. |
